MABEL GREER’S TOYSHOP were a blues/ psychedelic rock band peddling their wares around London in the mid-sixties, before morphing into an early version of prog-rock titans YES. Inactive since 1968, and with good reason, 2014 sees them inexplicably reunited and putting out ‘New Way Of Life’, five new songs and six re-recorded ones from the sixties. What does it sound like? Exactly what you’d expect. Horribly outdated and cumbersome, ploddy and oozing with the kind of hippy-shit that probably works well with the right drugs.
Conclusion: Pointless, unless you yearn for WISHBONE ASH, or were actually there back in ’68.
