Album Review

This still fairly unknown artist from Italy has contributed his compositions to one compilation and has appeared as member of the formation HELL BATRONS WRATH so far and presented his first own full-length with Maka Isna in 2007…

It all starts out with a short intro with densely layered chorals and strings. The scenery changes for the next track called ‘Suicide Man vs. Stupid Man’, where you can hear some kind of alienated organ thingy in the background. Far in the distance, sacral female choirs can be heard and spherical keys penetrate the track. The rhythm section is as simple as it gets and could have been omitted if you ask me. Creepy sound storms dominate ‘Morning in Agony’ and dead serious, that drum section annoys me really. It seems to be the same as on the last tracks and appears totally out of place. ‘Japans Nightmare’ deserves its title. It brings the feeling of the Far East always with a slight dark and creepy overtone. ‘Solitude Depression’ is one sonic Industrial mash-up using distorted handing in hand with disturbing frequency experiments and in the later half, a beat comes in which sounds definitely better than the last ones and also the one on ‘From the Dark Past’ sounds much more thought-out on that score with nice ambient-scapes also incorporating field recordings. That could be a candidate for a vocal experiment if he would find a decent singer. The closing track ‘With the Teacher & Victorious Weapons’ sounds like a darker twin of the intro track. Everything’s surrounded by a gloomy aura.

The ambient part of the music on ‘Maka Isna’ is already well worked-out, still there’s room for improvements and more diversity in the melodies etc. But he really needs to work on the drum sections. Except for two tracks they are far too simple and repetitive.
