German solo artist ANIA JOOLS has just released her first album ‘Bilder von Mir’ and already has catered for euphoric reactions in the press facing her powerful, Soul timbre. And if you then put the CD in your player, start the first fluffy song ‘Schön dich wiederzusehen’ and hear her voice for the first time yourself it’s actually hard to believe that she’s just 21 years old. I called the first song fluffy before, because it actually is! It is the kind of sound that makes the perfect company for the hot and bright summer days. On the second position we have ‘Viel zu weit weg’ that holds slightly jazzy rhythms as well as filigree acoustic passages bleeding Mediterranean feelings. With ‘Bilder von Dir’ the rhythm section first recedes a little from the spotlight to give way to more rocking and somewhat blues-tinged guitar passages but all subordinates to the vocal showcase.
‘Egal’ strikes’ softer and mellower tones musically. Discreet slow drumming and soothing piano drums and guitar while ‘Tanz mit Mir’ brings pure Latino feeling to the table with the fitting backing accentuation like trumpets saxophone and stuff. There’s only one thing to do now: Get on the floor and dance until you drop dead and having already reached the end my recommendation goes out to those having nothing against a little soul, Jazz, and pop for and you shouldn’t expect anything really dark here. But Ania’s voice alone is already worth a listen!
