Album Review

For the past four years, Benjamin Sohn’s solo project CONCRETE RAGE has been standing for harsh Electro sounds combined with technoid beats and Industrial influences. In 2008, one year after signing with the well-known label Danse Macabre, the first album `(Un)natural´ was delivered. Now the second release `Chaos Nation´ will go on sale on 4th September and clearly addresses consumers who want to dance their feet off in clubs.

The long-player contains all in all 13 tracks (including four remixes) dealing with apocalyptic scenarios that might be an explanation for the martial titles of tracks such as `Storm´, `Waffengang´ or `Werwolf´. Therefore, the musical performance of `Chaos Nation´ represents the album’s issue in an appropriate manner, as it won’t be a good choice for the soft-hearted and non-dancers. Thus, you can’t find one mid-tempo track on the album, let alone a ballad. The dance inferno begins with a short swelling up intro followed by the title track that is a punch in the gut due to hard and extremely danceable beats. Certainly, Electroheads will appreciate the recording combining all the genre-typical ingredients.

Perfectly crafted, distorted vocals and brute sounds dominate the entire production. However, I got bored after the first five tracks which may depend on the fact, that I’m not the biggest fan of that style. In my opinion, `Waffengang´ is the most interesting piece on the album due to its nearly progressive changes in tempo and the pounding bass lines. In general, the `Chaos Nation´ style is nothing new to me, but I guess it will be a pleasing package for dance-willing fans of harsh Electro tracks.
