Album Review

BABYLON BOMBS is a Swedish band formed in Stockholm in 2003. They made a demo ‘Promo 2003’ which contained four songs, the band sent it out to webzines and radio stations with very good response. In 2004, the band got signed with the Swedish record label Smilodon and their first album ‘Cracked Wide Open and Bruised’ was released in 2005. BABYLON BOMBS’ breakthrough came in 2006 with the second album ‘Doin’ You Nasty’. ‘Babylon's Burning’ is the bands third album and the first single ‘Goodbye Good Luck’ was released on ITunes in late 2008 as a teaser.

‘Babylon's Burning’ kick starts with ‘Liberation’. This is the second single from the album, it will be released the 30th September with a video that at least I will keep my eyes open for because this is a really good song! I like how the first song kind of flows over to the title song ‘Babylon's Burning’, it's a good and catchy song that easily gets stuck on your mind. ‘Resurrection Love’ is an interesting song with calmer parts perfectly woven together with rougher ones. ‘It's Alright’ is different song that has a lot of feeling. ‘Winding Road’ is one of my favourites on the record; I like how this song is built musically as well as lyrically.

‘Babylon's Burning’ starts with three strong songs and when I first listened to it I really wondered how the rest of the album would be like. I guess my expectations were pretty high since I really liked the opening tracks and well I hoped that the rest of the album would have the same quality. ‘Babylon’s Burning’ has impressive music, great melodies and lyrics. I like the singer Dani’s voice; it really works with the music. But the end result is a little too uneven in my ears, sometimes the vocals kind of drown in the music and on those parts the music is not that great and then it just doesn't work. If the whole album had had the same quality as the three first songs then this would have been a clear and cool 10 / 10 but one thing is for sure and that is that I will keep my eyes and ears on this band in the future!
