Album Review
The man behind ASCII.DISKO is Daniel Holc aka Kat D.D. Rokk, a former indie rock guitarist whose first releases under ASCII.DISKO dates back to 2002. Since then, Holc's exceptional skill in mixing together influences from electro clash, house, synth pop, EBM and more have made him a popular artist and DJ across the genres. Despite several 12" and EP releases, 'Stay Gold, Forever Gold' is ASCII.DISKO's first full-length album since 'Alias' in 2006. Thanks to Holc's composition and producing skills, the album is worth the wait, though.
The album is opened by lazily pulsating 'Pantera' which indeed brings in mind the big cats. It's followed by more upbeat 'Dancing with Ghosts' and more experimental single track 'Knucklehead'. Other slightly different tracks on the album are calm 'For I Am Death, I Am Destroyer', 'Like All The Terrors And The Horrors Of The World Raining Down On Your Skull' and 'Everything Is Fading Away', but majority of the album consists on irresistibly danceable tracks such as the title track, 'FTW' and the single track 'Jawbreaker'.
The electro clash past of ASCII.DISKO is retained in the minimalistic composition. Holc is skilled in building up tension in his tracks. While many contemporary EBM acts often start repeating themselves already in their 3-4 minute radio edit tracks, Holc manages to keep the listener excited easily for twice as long. To conclude, 'Stay Gold, Forever Gold' is a must-have for electro-enthusiasts and others may find it worth checking out as well.
