Single Review

Two of the most familiar people in the independent music scene i.e. Sara Noxx & Peter Spilles (PROJECT PITCHFORK) collaborated on the ‘Earth Song’ which is a re-issue of the song originally released on the SARA NOXX album ‘Equinoxx’ back in 2003.

The single starts with the Radio Edit and after a few seconds it’s already cleared that this song  is made for the clubs but unlike many other club songs the ‘Earth Song’ also has a message. It deals with the issue of the environment getting destroyed more and more by mankind and it also asks a question we should ask ourselves more often What can we do? What can we do to make a change?

As I already mentioned before the song is very club-orientated.  Peter’s dark and lightly processed vocals contrast with the whispering, seductive vocal style of Sara. The strings and chorals in the background give the song a dark and dense atmosphere. The following ‘Original Version’ of the ‘Earth Song’ gives every element more room to unfold and builds up layer upon layer. A very prominent artist has laid his hands on the first remix: JOACHIM WITT. His ‘London Mix’ starts with very dark strings, processed vocal samples and a sound like blowing wind before a monotonous and straight beat starts. The whole atmosphere of the song seems to have turned to ice. The ‘Teufel Remix’ by TANZWUT displays heavy Techno influences like the driving sequences and the pumping dance beat but also contains some great spherical melodies.

Long time no see. The Swedish formation CAT RAPES DOG  whose last release was in 1998 prove they are still alive with the ‘All Hail Ishtar Mix’ giving the song a more rocking direction by fusing guitar riffs with synthesized beats, strings and female chorals. SUBWAY TO SALLY are the last on the list and the ‘Ready to Kill Mix’ does it’s name justice by turning the track into a driving rock song with slicing guitar attacks and wonderful strings.

Regardless if you choose the original or one of the remixes, they’re all danceable in one way or the other but all the remixers managed to work out different facets and so everyone will find something he likes. Whether it’s the techno-esque remix by TANZWUT or the rocking one by SUBWAY TO SALLY.
