Album Review

RE:\LEGION is back! I guess a few of you don’t know them and are wondering how they could be back although they haven’t be there. If you belong to these people - shame on you - you really had missed something. They are working uninterrupted from on their beginning in 2001. After a demo album, a lot of releases on certain samplers and remix jobs for well known artists like IN STRICT CONFIDENCE or WYNARDTAGE they signed on the label e-noxe. Their debut album ‘13 seconds’ was released at the end of 2007 and offered a lot of danceable club sounds. I still love listening to it nowadays. Okay till today because the two legionnaires Olli and Martin have now returned with a masterpiece - a next step in their development and the next step to further success.

The wait for the new album ‘State Of Mind’ was absolutely worth it. The sounds are much clearer, less edged. The vocals are still catchy and the song writing is more sensitive. I really want to highlight the lyrics. They are profound and invite the listener to daydream. Considering that RE:\LEGION is a German based band producing their music with mostly English lyrics - they did a great job. Exclusive the titles of the tracks are relevant. On their new LP they use new elements such as guitar (‘Thank you and goodbye’ - electronic guitar by Chris from VIRTUAL VICTIM) and piano (‘Farewell’). However, RE:\LEGION stays loyal to their original style. That means they are still combining hard electro beats with much smoother Synth melodies.

Even the intro cut me into fascination. “…My soul gets purified as I fall into a trance - and at this very moment… I start to dance” The duo created a much diversified album. So I think you’ll have fun with exploring. This album is as danceable as their last, maybe more. Martin and Olli haven’t added the length of their songs to their cover but the quantity of the BPM. Very cute detail which promise the consumer a club suitable album! In that the guys used their time of intense studio work to create a high quality LP. This album is definitely a step into the right way and even grown-up.

My conclusion to this album: A successful album which invites the listener to a journey to himself - the STATE OF MIND (and to parties with friends ;D) In this case I want to use the opportunity to praise the cover. It really fits to the concept of this album and is arranged by JIRKO (www.jirkoart.de) in a superb way. The photo “Nicole-Kosak”, taken by THOENE PHOTOGRAPHY and the arrangement is excellent. My tips for start playing: EVERYTHING! Keep the beat beating!!!
