It doesn’t seem so long ago that I heard about that new compilation series, dedicating itself solely to featuring and promoting the variety electronic pop music has to offer. Ever since that project started there have been 5 volumes of the series. ‘electropop.5’ as the newest one has just been released at the beginning of November and CHRISTOPHER ANTON opens the comp in style with a dancy track called ‘Shattered Mind’ that comes up with one hell of a catchy chorus line, before COLOURED TEARS inflict percussions into their mid-tempo ‘Loneliness’ while retaining a cool atmosphere throughout the song. CONVERSATION represent the 80s side of electronic pop with ‘Tell Me (I’m The One)’ until a chapter is ended in the calm beauty of DAYBEHAIVIOR’s ‘No More Minutes’.
Even though HABERDASHEY’s ‘Stairs’ builds up walls of melancholy, it’s message is rather hopeful while JONTEKNIK put the longing into the centre of attention on ‘Hollow’. For a change we get to hear something in German with ‘Sternentanz’, performed by LYLEE and almost sounding like a lullaby. The compilation is being closed with a minimalist, bleepy dance track by the name of ‘Plastique People’ by NEUROPA. All in all, you can attest the compilation once more to have surfaced a few pearls from the bottom of the big sea that is the electronic pop genre. Others are not that spectacular but that’s a regular thing to occur when compiling such CDs. You can’t just please everyone.
