Schöngeist
Dark Munich Festival traditionally attracts lovers of good music from all over Germany and not only Germany. This year hasn’t become an exception: great line-up, nice audience and definitely a lot of good music made those three festival days really unforgettable. However it will be too long to tell about the whole event as the only thing you should know is that everything was impressive and cool. Yet it’s just impossible to go without a review of a gig to allow you feel better the atmosphere of the festival. And in this case let’s focus of the performance of - as I think one of one of the most interesting bands on the dark scene - gothic rock formation SCHÖNGEIST.

Blacksun Corp Festival: Phosgore, Die Sektor, Nitro/Noise, Benjamin’s Plague & Synthetica
The evening prior to the festivities of the Dutch Kings Day we find the Blacksun Corp festival in the cavern that is called P60. It is an evening full of dark bass and harsh industrial EBM music that can not only be heard, but also be felt deep inside the bowels. But the evening before Kings Day is also a disadvantage because there are so many activities throughout the Netherlands. It is therefore not surprising we find an almost empty venue when the evening starts. Fortunately it doesn’t bother much of the bands performing, or so it seems.

Paaspop Festival Day 1: And So I Watch You From Afar, Band of Skulls, Blood Red Shoes, Devildriver, Halestorm, Navarone, The Paceshifters, Silverfaces, Peter Pan Speedrock, Prodigy, Triggerfinger
Paaspop or “Easter pop” in Schijndel is the usual kick off for the festival season in the Netherlands and the weather proves to be quite unpredictable this time of year. While last year I geared up with gloves and a woollen hat in my camera bag, this year sunglasses and sunscreen were in the bag! Paaspop obviously has grown even further with more bands, more & bigger stages and a bigger visitor capacity. Line-up is very diverse as it is each year, with rock, metal, pop, dance, reggae, theatre and whatnot. Loud guitars and drums were mostly to be found at the Phoenix, Jack Daniel’s stage and the Thunderbolt, but in between there was some time to wander around the festival compound and enjoy the sun!

Sonata Arctica & Trick or Treat
What better day to visit a power metal concert than a sunny Saturday? And what city to better waste your precious time to be in a queue than Bochum? Last time I saw a queue like that was at Dynamo Open Air in 1999 but that was a festival… I’ll be damned. Today, SONATA ARCTICA were presenting their new album and many people were up to check it out!

DevilDriver & Sylosis
For their last show in Germany, DEVILDRIVER had chosen the Gruenspan in Hamburg. The guys from Santa Barbara, California, released their new and sixth album, ‘Winter Kills’, already in August 2013 and were now finally playing a show for their German head bangers. Actually, DEVILDRIVER brought along two bands for support. But unfortunately, BLEED FROM WITHIN could not perform this night because of an car accident on the road. So SYLOSIS were the only opener.
