Maximo ParkMAXIMO PARK have just released their sixth studio album, ‘Risk To Exist’. The band from Newcastle has developed significantly in several directions: the quintet (by now the live bassist Paul Rafferty officially replaced Archis Tiku ) so far was more the spearhead of British Indie Rock, Paul Smith and his boys have now developed musically. So far, THE CLASH and similar Punk Rock veterans have already been their references; now, Paul Weller and the voice of FEARGAL SHARKEY move more to the centre. But some things remain the same: the Hook-laden melodies, the sense of urgency, soulful grooves, and pop sensibility are still the hallmarks of the British.

‘Risk To Exist’ is a daring new path also production-wise. Curiously out of the usual environment in the English northeast, MAXIMO PARK moved to Wilco's studio in Chicago in autumn 2016. Completely recorded live, the band produced the album together with Tom Schick (Wilco, Beck, White Denim). Mimi Parker of the celebrated US band LOW, whose voice can be heard on five songs on the album, was also part of the show. The third news relates to the lyrics: In terms of content, the new record has become much more political than MAXIMO PARK was already used to. In view of the current world policy and the crumbling political systems, the new work is an important sign in the present time. These pop songs address the great themes - an album on which the political is also the personal. In autumn, MAXIMO PARK will be on tour and present their new pieces live.
