The Swell Season - “UK & Europe” 2025
In the Irish independent music drama ‘Once’, Czech singer and pianist Markéta Irglová and Irish singer-songwriter and guitarist Glen Hansard (THE FRAMES) broke many hearts in 2008. Their self-titled debut album, ‘The Swell Season’, was released in 2006 and features ‘Falling Slowly’, ‘When Your Mind's Made Up’, ‘Lies’ and ‘Leave’, all of which appear in the film and made the duo world-famous. Following the release of the film, which was directed by John Carney, ‘Falling Slowly’ won an Oscar for Best Song at the 80th Academy Awards and was nominated for a Grammy. Today, both Hansard and Irglová are successful solo musicians who are reuniting for a reunion of THE SWELL SEASON. On their UK & Europe 2025 tour, the duo will also be coming to Cologne, Hamburg and Berlin to perform their greatest hits and indulge in romantic nostalgia with their fans.
In the film ‘Once’, Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová play two musicians who meet by chance and fall in love through making music together and producing a demo CD, but are quickly caught up in the reality of their life circumstances and obligations. In real life, the two met through Hansard’s band THE FRAMES, which was one of the most successful Irish Rock bands in the early 2000s. After their joint debut album ‘The Swell Season’ (2006), both played the leading roles in the film ‘Once’, whose official soundtrack ‘Music From The Motion Picture Once’ was released as a collabo album by the two songwriters in 2007.
This was followed in 2009 by the album ‘Strict Joy’, which entered the Billboard 200 at number 15 and celebrated another hit song outside of the film with ‘Low Rising’ after the track ‘The Moon’ from the debut album. The single ‘Feeling the Pull’ was released in 2010, before both Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová initially concentrated on their solo careers and put THE SWELL SEASON on ice for the time being in 2011 with ‘The Swell Season - The Love Story After Once’, a documentary film about the duo's relationship and sudden global success.
In January 2015, the duo played two reunion concerts at Seoul’s Sejong Centre to celebrate the re-release of ‘Once’ in South Korea. After another break, they played six concerts in the USA in 2022, followed by 17 more shows in 2023. In the same year, the two produced some songs in Markéta's home studio in Iceland and released the single ‘(Was it all worth it?) The Answer Is Yes’, with which the duo finally confirmed a musical comeback.
