K’s Choice - Plays ‘Paradise in Me’
The band K’S CHOICE’s journey to paradise began in Antwerp in the 1980s, centred around siblings Sam and Gert Bettens. Since then, they have released several top 10 albums. ‘Paradise in Me’ is K’S CHOICE’s second and particularly successful album, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
More than a million copies were sold worldwide, and the band went gold and platinum several times with the album. In their home country of Belgium, the album stayed in the charts for 89 weeks. No fewer than six singles were released from the album: ‘Not an Addict’ (which marked their international breakthrough), ‘Mr. Freeze’, ‘A Sound That Only You Can Hear’, ‘Iron Flower’, ‘Wait’ and ‘Dad’.
In 1994, they toured throughout Europe, still under the name THE CHOICE at the time. The INDIGO GIRLS, for whom THE CHOICE played as support in Germany, were so enthusiastic about them that they took the band with them to the USA. Shortly afterwards, another band with the same name threatened legal action, and the name K’S CHOICE was born - the K refers to Josef K. from Kafka’s ‘The Trial’.
Just one year later, Alanis Morissette discovered the band at Rock am Ring and was so impressed that she suggested K’S CHOICE also play on Morissette’s US tour. This was another boost to their career and a key international moment for the Belgians, as K’S CHOICE played to around 20,000 people every day that year. Their popularity grew and ‘Not An Addict’ featuring Skin from SKUNK ANANSIE made it into the top five of the alternative charts as one of the biggest hits of the year.
To mark the 30th anniversary of ‘Paradise In Me’, K’S CHOICE will play their album in its entirety from start to finish, with a handful of their other greatest hits as a bonus. Sam Bettens’ smoky voice, the intimacy of their concerts and their sophisticated songwriting make their performances a special experience. As part of this tour, the musicians will make a single stop in Germany: Cologne will welcome K’S CHOICE on 8 October. It’s gonna rock!
