ARCH ENEMY have been legends of pure f***ing Metal for almost 30 years and are a proven formidable force. Founded in 1995 by Swedish guitar hero Michael Amott, they have uncompromisingly survived three decades and are still going from strength to strength. In 2025, ARCH ENEMY return with ‘Blood Dynasty’, another magnificent work of virtuoso brutality.
The band’s twelfth studio album shows them at the peak of their powers, as evidenced by the recently released tracks ‘Dream Stealer’ and ‘Liars & Thieves’: the vicious, energetic rippers that open and close the album, as Amott explains. “When we released ‘Dream Stealer,’ I saw a lot of comments saying it rekindled the band’s old-school sound, but I don’t know if I agree,” he notes. “We’ve definitely increased the tempo and aggression this time. We all enjoy it. Luckily, we were able to rehearse well before the tour, as the song has many twists and turns, so we have to play it very well to make it sound as good as it does on the album!”
ARCH ENEMY began their life in the shadows of the metal underground. Michael Amott’s time with British icons CARCASS inspired him to pursue a passionately melodic, yet dark and brutal path, and their debut album, ‘Black Earth’, released in 1996, was the result. ARCH ENEMY’s sound, characterized by complex, hyper-melodic guitar work and ferocious death metal intensity, had great potential from the start. But after three albums with original frontman Johan Liiva, the band mutated into an even more powerful beast, with charismatic vocalist Angela Gossow at the helm.
Albums like ‘Wages Of Sin’ (2001), ‘Anthems Of Rebellion’ (2003), and ‘Doomsday Machine’ (2005) were enthusiastically received by critics and fans alike, and by the end of the 2000s, ARCH ENEMY were firmly established as international heavyweights with an unparalleled reputation for triumphant live shows. In 2014, Gossow’s amicable departure made way for the arrival of powerhouse Alissa White-Gluz and the release of ‘War Eternal’, the new line-up’s first album together.
Another instant hit, released on March 28, 2025, paved the way for even greater success and popularity. Subsequent albums, ‘Will To Power’ (2017) and ‘Deceivers’ (2022), maintained the band’s caliber, with White-Gluz as a remarkable, captivating figurehead and her bandmates - Amott, drummer Daniel Erlandsson, bassist Sharlee D’Angelo, and, since 2023, guitarist Joey Concepcion - displaying an astonishing degree of chemistry and ingenuity. In 2025, ARCH ENEMY returned with ‘Blood Dynasty’, more powerful than ever.
