Midwinter Festival 2025 with Waldkauz, Perkún and Lautenfeyn
Get ready for a magical concert experience at the Midwinter Festival at KUFA Hildesheim, where WALDKAUZ will present their powerful new album ‘Königin’ (‘Queen’) - a mythical journey through darkness, light, and legend.
Be prepared for a magical concert experience in the middle of the darkest time of the year. The band’s Pagan Folk Rock presents itself powerfully and multi-layered in 2025: electric guitar, flutes, hurdy-gurdy, and percussion merge into epic arrangements with mythical depth. The second band to play that evening is the PERKÚN, a North-German Folk Rock project with roots in North-European and Scandinavian Folk music. The name is derived from the Proto-Indo-European root perkūnos, which translates to “Lord of Oaks/Thunder”. The selection of the band’s instruments reflects the unusual musical diversity: fiddle, bodhrán, hurdy-gurdy, guitar, bouzouki - in combination with a male voice and lyrics from the rich treasure trove of Nordic folklore and mythology. https://perkunfolk.bandcamp.com / https://www.instagram.com/perkunfolk
The third band on the bill will be LAUTENFEYN. When I saw the band live at this year’s Medieval Fantasy Spectaculum in Bückeburg, I had the impression that I was watching musicians who had been performing together on stage for years. Their fun, enthusiasm, unique sound, and absolutely professional collaboration left no room for doubt. To my great surprise, however, I later discovered that the band had only given their debut concert a few weeks earlier. Here is their self-description:
“Five companions, each with a daring history of exile, escape, lawlessness, and astonishing musical talent. What joy, what jubilation when they play, sing, and intoxicate you. Stories and legends entwine around them like ivy around a wild tree. The wild hurdy-gurdy dance, the medieval Metal ballad, the Folk-Rock song of exile. The cello fireworks, the rapid guitar solo to the stomping medieval Rock groove and a great legend. Exquisite choral singing accompanied by the damned lute and the wild dances of the traveling people.
