There is often a feeling, when listening to Sweden’s PRINCIPE VALIENTE, that they could make boiling an egg into a hugely dramatic and intense moment of massive importance and significance, probably filming it in grainy black and white, in slow motion, and starring the hands of someone famous you’ve never heard of. And so, it is on recent single ‘Porcelain’, a fabulously dense swirl of dark and light, hovering on the edge of your senses, or rolling majestically through a dream you were having that possibly involved mountains. This is a band reminding you there are places still to explore, and in the depths of all this sonic compression there are little bursts of light and hope and optimism. Wonderful. There are also three remixes here by big-hitters AGENT SIDE GRINDER, TRAITRS and ASH CODE.
Conclusion: PRINCIPE VALIENTE remain a vital element in the current musical landscape, quietly going about the business of being fabulous while retaining a signature sound that is still evolving with an easy, organic purpose.
