The German Depressive Black Metal band TRÜBSAL was formed in 2015 and to be brutally honest with you: if this is Black Metal I obviously have no idea about this subgenre. TRÜBSAL sounds like a 80s Goth band in my opinion (well the first song of this EP does). Just imagine THE CURE but with vocals that are even more unpolished making it sound very grounded in stark contrast to the very melodic and atmospheric soundscapes. For me one of the most important trademarks of Black Metal, aside from Satanism for example, is when staccato riffs and that special kind of drumming creates the “wall of sound” effect, that hits you like waves consisting of fiercely played riffs. This is something I dearly miss here, this is just sad music with sad lyrics and the whole EP lacks what I would summarize as Heavy Metal in general and Black Metal in particular. I don't know why these guys call their music Black Metal, it bothers me a bit because it reminds me more of post-rock or 80s Goth than Black Metal at all.
Conclusion: If you dig Post-Rock or Goth stuff you might like this but to dare call this Metal is a bit audacious cause this lacks the aggression and power that Metal usually has.
