Album Review
With the 2008 release of ALICE IN VIDEOLAND’s album ‘She’s A Machine’, the band entered a path, defined by an edgier sound than before. Since the band was always one to never stand still, one could wonder how their newest album ‘A Million Thoughts And They’re All About You’ would turn out.
The album begins with ‘Take Me With You’ which puts to the table a rather retro and easier sound styling, incorporating fluffier melodies and a marked rock along hook line. ‘Little Bird’ turns its focus to 80s disco structures just as the following ‘Spaceship’ does. ‘Spaceship’ also is the first single lifted off the album. Other than its predecessor, the track goes for a punchier sound. The thing you will come to love ‘Something New’ for, once heard, is its irresistible catchiness and its ability to have you up on your feet in no time ready to do some wild dancing. The thrusting beat and the clear melody within the chorus make sure of that in particular. ‘In A Band’ keeps a similar pace, but highlights more punky and rebellious overtones embedded in a dirtier pattern. You can almost see yourself doing the head shaker while the band’s playing the track live.
From high energy stuff we now switch over to melancholy spheres. That is above all represented by Toril’s mellower vocal style in the verses. Also the band uses significantly more textures in this one. The last one of the regular tracklist is ‘Buffalo Stance’, a rendition of NENEH CHERRY’s original which feels a little less hip-hop influenced. The modern structure reworks contribute to making it an enjoyable listen. Two more or less innovative remixes wrap up an album that again has power in abundance to offer amidst a string of super catchy melodies. Absolutely recommended
