Heavy Current - Push the Fire

HEAVY CURRENT is a German synth rock band that started back in 1999. They have released 4 studio albums since the start and now they are here with their new album ‘Push the Fire’. I had no expectations of this album since I did not know of the band and had never heard anything from them before. When I heard the first song ‘Rain of Asia’ I was simply blown away! I really like this song, it has great music, lyrics and Jan Weisbrod sings beautiful and strong. “But nothing hurts more like the loneliness deep within / I feel lost in mind / I feel lost in my emptiness inside / in the middle of eternity / there are a face that you will never see / I feel lost in my mind...” Talk about great start of this record!

The second song ‘Infected’ has a rougher and darker sound with cool guitar and the following ‘Ratrace’ is more like a synth-pop song that has a catchy beat. ‘Dining Death’ is the second song on this record that instantly became a favourite the first time I heard it, since I really like the lyrics and how the song is built musically. “Can´t you see I´m paralysed in my pain / seconds to live with bullets inside / what do you think/ bring back to me my childhood again / like broken glass / the pieces cut my soul / seconds to live with bullets inside / I´d realize now nothing is safe / nothing is ok and nothing is under control...” I like how the song ‘SHARK’ slowly tells it´s story, it begins softly but then the beat starts. The title song ‘Push the Fire’ is a synth-pop song with catchy lyric that easily gets stuck in your mind. It feels and sounds more playful than the other songs on this record.

‘Push the Fire’ is a cool record that I really enjoy listening to. The songs are interesting and well built and the lyrics are strong. The singer Jan has a strong voice that he uses on different ways on the different songs through the record. I had never expected to fall like this record and talk about me looking forward to see this band live and enjoy their music live. I love when I find new cool music - thanks!
