Album Review
Industrial metal band HELLFIRE SOCIETY continues to express the dissatisfaction or even malice with the new effort entitled ‘Black-OP’. First of all, the album produces the impression of an absolutely complete creation thanks to numerous insets of speeches, dialogues, the clanging of manacles, chains or other hardware. All this suggests that there is some concept which unites the songs like chapters in a book. So in whole the album sounds versatile yet solid.
The music part of this opus can be described as sufficiently aggressive, dynamic, smashingly tough and rhythmic, with a stylish touch of industrial and an impact of punk, or maybe, cyberpunk. The vocal part aptly combines recitative, mournful singing and expressive growling. The structure of the compositions is also interesting: one melodic line sometimes abruptly turns into another, enriching itself with the part of new instruments. The album doesn’t contain too many electronic effects, samples and everything is excellently performed and recorded. A sophisticated listener may be confused with the presence of curse words in the lyrics, but those words are justified the concept and the genre and they even attach the almost forgotten old school trash charm to the music so popular today. It seems that the band took all the best from MARILYN MANSON’s ostentation, GODSMACK’s aggression and diluted with the mordancy of MEGADETH.
Thus, the album will interest a wide audience because of many elements of trash, industrial, deep concept that reminds of PINK FLOYD and the acute social delivery typical for MINISRTY. After 10 diverse tracks a listener will surprisingly notice that the CD is over, so it will be a good reason to press the “repeat” button.
