A couple of days ago I had the pleasure of obtaining new music in order to write about it. As usual I dropped the new stuff I got in my playlist and started listening. An after a few tracks I thought: “What the hell…? Is that really new stuff? Someone´s dug up the era of good old Gothic Rock and Post Punk? What…? Wait a moment…” And finally it sunk in! IKON! Of course, now the scales fell from my eyes! 20 years of music that is perfectly blending Darkwave, Post Punk and Gothic Rock. Founded in Melbourne in the year 1991, IKON soon developed a style of music that was referring to bands like JOY DIVISION or NEW ORDER and became an influential band by themselves.

Now after 20 years of creating music that other bands adore and refer to, it´s time to recap the own career. It could be so easy just to release a “Best of” album and to enjoy the Ka-Ching. But IKON pleases their audience with an reissue of their first two albums ‘In the shadow of the angels’ and ‘Flowers for the gathering’ in different versions from 2CD up to a 4-disc-set (3 CD + DVD). In fact that´s a kind gesture to the fans, because the two releases are pretty rare and so there is a great demand. The cherry on top is a Bonus CD with previously unreleased and other rare tracks IKON-o-Maniacs were still waiting for. I won´t hold forth about the songs, because in my opinion ‘In the shadow of the angels’ is a masterpiece and a milestone of Gothic Music and has to be on everyone´s shelves. And with a plus of unreleased songs and rare tracks even fans from the outset can be satisfied to buy the release!
