Album Review

NIVLHEL is a Swedish Black Metal two-piece, who released their first demo ‘Ur Vrede Född’ in 2013 and their self-titled debut only a year later. ‘Nivlhel’ is an interesting debut, that combines a cold and harsh atmosphere with occasionally used nice melodies and even clean-sung vocals (which are contrasted with raw ones). All song titles are constructed as numeric variations of ‘Vrede’, which are not ordered numerically. Thus, it is not only rather difficult to remember and co-join song and title, but also to grasp possible lyrical and textual implications. This surely does not affect the quality of the music, which is relatively riff-driven and reminds of 90s Swedish Black Metal. Moreover, every song is qualitatively equal, which marks for a concise and conclusive tracklist. Fans of the above mentioned genre are definitely recommended to give NIVLHEL a listen.
