Album Review

Finally it came the time for the new SUICIDAL ROMANCE album. Since the band intrigued with their EP ‘Whisper Goodbye’ a lot, it was a release to get to know, what it’s all about. But a quick reminder first... Last fall, the appetizer ‘Whisper Goodbye’ was released. For everybody, who knew SUICIDAL ROMANCE before it was a big surprise to find out that the Baltic BLUTENGEL, as the band is known among music lovers, made a big step towards harder electronic beats and harsher vocals. As for remixes, which were on the EP, there were interpretations from REAXION GUERRILLA, PSY’AVIAH, CEDIGEST, DIE SEKTOR and INCUBITE. So the industrial influence on the band in its new period as clear as sunny winter morning.

The album ‘Memories Behind Closed Curtains’ is opened with a track ‘Love Will Have Her Revenge’. So you need just 30 seconds to watch at your player to get sure that you turned the right album on. Yeah, it’s SUICIDAL ROMANCE. After the shocking intro, ‘Whisper Goodbye’ and ‘Slave Slave’ (feat. Shiv-R) follow which we’re already familiar with from the EP. After more or less SUICIDAL ROMANCE like song ‘Hold Me’, there is a one minute long bridge ‘Don’t Go’ which makes you look at your player again. Yes, it’s still SUICIDAL ROMANCE. After ‘Ecstatic’ which - thanks to Felix Marc - sounds again customary, there are three more shocking tracks: ‘One Love’, ‘Forever As One’ and ‘Amour Amour’. Romantic titles are hiding a big surprise: Hard, harsh, powerful, aggressive, dance shots with distorted Dima’s vocals. In conclusion a magic piece ‘Behind Closed Curtains’ with a line in Russian: “Do you hear? Destiny called your name”.

Resuming what was heard it is needed to be said that it was very nice of musicians to release an EP first. It was a good commercial decision: Quite intriguing and very interesting to listen to the album. And the choice of the songs, which we could hear on the EP, ‘Whisper Goodbye’ and ‘Slave Slave’, was honest. So the listener was get prepared to what he/she is going to hear on the album. In general it is a good album, interesting and unusual comparing to the previous releases. A deep conflict between Dmitry’s tendencies to hard electronic and Victoria’s tender vocals led to a surprisingly good and quite unique result. So there’s no more girly fairy-tails. And if Love has her revenge, it is cold, harsh and cruel.
