No one knows what is happening. This is the opening line of the current album by 65DAYSOFSTATIC and pretty good description not just for this band but for the whole genre of math rock which becomes more and more popular lately. You never know where the melody will lead you. You never know when the climax of the track comes, because once you think you reached it you'll be surprised by even more intensive part next second. This is a terrifying but at the same time exciting mixture of electronics, complex guitars and haunting keys.
The only vocal part on this album is that sample at the very beginning. “No one knows what is happening. There is a lot of danger outside. OK?“ And this seems to describe what is going on with those guys, who dedicated themselves to this kind of music. I guess your first association to “math“ would be “nerd“. And this is pretty much like this. This is music by nerds for nerds. And first of all it is a door for them to come out, to the world full of dangers, anxiety and misunderstanding. Seeing musicians playing math rock, normally you would never guess, that there are such wild vibes in them, and that they hiding such intensive emotions. So they show it all to the whole world and invite all the other people alike to greet this world.
Math rock is actually quite difficult music to approach, not everybody would like it, or like it from the first listening. It may seem to be just a ravel of guitar track, keys tracks and samples. But in fact it is a beautiful and shining soul with its history, troubles and thoughts. It might seem that this soul is confused, but in fact it is structured and clear. Once you play the 'Wild Light' you start a great journey full of dangers, where no one knows what will happen next minute, but also full of fantastic experiences and obviously with a great soundtrack.
