Title: Revolution State vs NoizeKatt
Artist: Revolution State
Genre: Industrial / Noise
Release Date: 2007
Label: Vendetta Music

Album Review

Both projects originate from the minds of Ben & Bonnie P. REVOLUTION STATE was founded in 2000, but many people firstly took notice of their work due to their contributed tracks to the VELVET ACID CHRIST album ‘Hex Angel’ namely ‘Misery’ and ‘Eva’. In 2005, NOIZEKATT was founded, initially meant as alive only project it soon became much more. In 2007, both projects have signed with American Vendetta Music label and this was their first official release.

The first track ‘Uncompromised Hate’ can be seen as kind of an instruction into the sonic world of ‘Revolution State’, combining the harshness of a distorted beat with the endless beauty of a floating ambient soundscapes. ‘Deny’ sets a different pace and the fidgety of microscopic, stabbing beats intrigues and pleases the ears alike ‘Hate’ virtually slaps in your face with the hissing, distorted vocals. Now and then, crisp ambient soundscapes deliver a sensible cold taking control from within. ‘Profit Produced Pain’ we turn to a more melodic side of the project. You can expect beautiful string arrangements, spreading into eternity and broken noise beat work, which nevertheless delivers some dance appeal. We keep wandering on the path of melody with the following ‘My Other Heartbeat’, where spherical pads and heavenly choirs create a dense network of melody, while contrasting the destructive capabilities of the distorted beats. ‘Revolution of Hate’ is a brooding number, focussing on the harsh industrial sound, well dozed infusions of strings and melodic riffs make this a shining piece of electronic music.

The EP is divided into two parts and so we’re now crossing the borders of NOIZEKATT territory and by now you should have witnessed the change in sound. The short track ‘K@T’ doesn’t make a secret of its heavy penchant for concentrated beat salvoes and only minimalist melodic fragments. ‘Minus Hope’ with its haunting tone, instantly makes the temperature drop to absolute zero. Driving beats push the song forward and abrasive synth lines are hunting you down. The tempo is raised with ‘Eco Terror’. Stomping, distorted beats dominate the tune with less melody yet more hunting synth lines. ‘Left Hand’ is a very minimalist construction, at least it appears that way in the beginning, before the mighty power of cascading synth layers, to a small extend, breaks up the claustrophobic mood the harsh beats established a bit. The last track ‘Heavy Industries Inc.’ brings the monotonous humming of mechanical beats to your home and enriches it with distorted rhythmic patterns and the casual appearance of dark melodies.

A very well-produced fusion of noisy and melodic elements can be found on this release and I’m can’t wait to hear what’s coming up net, because as far as I know, there will be new album from both projects this year.
