Nightclub Paparazzi is where you want to go if you feel like getting drunk when you are in the small town of Nyköping, Sweden. That is where Daniel Gustafsson and Viktor Ginner first spoke, a late night a few years ago. By closing time that same night they had decided to start making music together. They debuted with ‘Mainland’ in 2005 and the second album with the strange title ‘The Disco and the what not’ came out in 2007. In early 2009 their third studio album, ‘Anchor Baby’, will be out on Megahype and A Different Drum.
The radio version of ‘Oh No Oh No!’ introduces us to the single with a nicely layered beat and the overly melodic chant carries us further into the sonic universe of RUPESH CARTEL highlighted by a pure sing-along chorus that is sure to unfold its hypnotic effect swiftly. The next couple of tracks altogether are remixes made by renowned acts like IRIS, CODE 64 and PULSE while IRIS can’t get any new facets out of the track and just put down another rhythm, CODE 64 make it a club-compatible floor filler with richer, heavier beats and decent atmospherics. PULSE goes a different way and makes it a minimal house/electro track and nice sound effects. The b-side ‘Chronometer’ initially presents itself electronically frisky to lead the listener into the soaring chorus which is supported by analogue sound layers.
Except for the IRIS remix, I came to like all the remixes and the price for the most innovative remix goes to PULSE and as for the original tracks, they make me curious about the upcoming album.
