Single Review

Pavla Mikulasova comes from the Czech Republic and as I read in the promo material the music of Bela Burtok has influenced her the most. By listening to her song (one can also find it on YouTube) I think that in the specific she was referring to the Piano Sonata no.2, which has this feeling full of melancholy. The lyrics of the song are quite wonderful, one might be tempted to think that the poetry of Jan Neruda (not of Pablo) has influenced her as well and her voice brings to my mind ENYA. What I find wonderful is that her voice at times sounds like she mumbles the words which offer a glimpse of fragility to the song. This is a feeling intensified by the fact the rhythm of the lyrics metrically is broken adding a tone of urgency; magnified by the verification of the fact that something will remain unspoken under all circumstances. What I disliked? That someone had the bright idea to add echo in the refrain, giving a mechanical approach to the song and thus killing the whole mood.
