Album Review

It’s been almost ten years since the last album, so this is one special welcome back for all fans and lovers of alternative rock: YELLOWCARD is back with a brand-new album under their belt: ‘Better Days’! YELLOWCARD is an alternative rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, that has been founded in 1997. The band had some interruptions between 2008 and 2010, as well as between 2017 and 2022.

Their most popular songs are ‘Ocean Avenue’, ‘Only One’ - which were both on the 2003 album ‘Ocean Avenue’- and ‘Lights and Sounds’ - off the same titled album, which was released in 2006 amongst others. In 2016, YELLOWCARD waved their farewells with their self-titled album, leaving us behind thinking, that this is the end. But destiny wanted it differently. In 2022 the band got back together and it felt right, So the band members got together again, and decided, it was time for new music. And here is the result: ‘Better Days’.

The title track opens the album. ‘Better Days’ instantly goes all in. Alongside great arrangements, and melodies to get stuck in your head, this song will make your heart beat faster in excitement. The strong chorus will make you smile and feel at ease, giving you the feeling, everything will be fine again now. ‘Take What You Want’ continues the strong riffs and rhythms. The catchy melodies will make it hard to sit still while listening. Give in, and move along to this wonderful music. ‘Love Letters Lost’ brings along Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio.

Together they created a strong yet thoughtful song, that will definitely touch your heart and gets you thinking. ‘honestly i’ is a beautifully personal song. Slow and thoughtful lyrics are wrapped in fast rhythms and pushing melodies. This song will dig deep underneath your skin, meant to stay for quite a while, motivating you from within. The melancholic, yet beautiful ‘You Broke Me Too’ features Avril Lavigne. The lyrics are heartbreaking and honest, and definitely dig deep while listening. And it might get you swaying along to the song, even if just a little.

‘City of Angels’ adds electronic beats to the album, reminding of the melancholic song ‘City Of Devils’, which was released in 2006 on their album ‘Lights and Sounds’. ‘Bedroom Posters’ brings back the good vibes with its rhythmic tunes and gets you going along, shaking off the previous melancholy and thoughtfulness. ‘Skin Scraped’ continues with catchy, and thriving tunes, keeping the good vibes coming, while getting you going along.

Slowly preparing you for the end of the album, ‘Barely Alive’ brings along a hint of tragedy and thoughtfulness, yet a spark of hope still stays within, pulsing and gradually growing stronger. ‘Big Blue Eyes’ ultimately ends the album with a smooth and melancholic acoustic riff. This song is definitely touching the heart, whether you want it or not.

YELLOWCARD is back with a brand new and brilliant album. ‘Better Days’ mark the beginning of a new chapter, an exciting and positive one. I, personally, love this album and cannot stop listening to it. And I am sure, you will feel the same. So, check out this grand return of YELLOWCARD: ‘Better Days’ is out now.
