17th June to 8th August 2021
Various Open-Air Concerts

Last summer, the Centre Culturel Régional Dudelange opderschmelz (CCRD), in collaboration with the Centre National de l’Audiovisuel (CNA), the Ecole Régionale de Musique and the town of Dudelange, hosted an open-air event under the stars.

The first edition of the Ënnert dem Waassertuerm festival was born out of the desire to give the public the opportunity to experience a real summer festival season, despite the sanitary crisis and in compliance with the safety measures in force. After the success of the last edition, Ënnert dem Wassertuerm will celebrate its return in 2021 with an even richer and more varied programme. For a few weeks, the car park of the CCRD opderschmelz and the CNA will be transformed into an open-air festival site and this against the backdrop of the former ironworks with its imposing water tower, to which this new festival owes its name.

The indispensable Fête de la Musique kicked off on 17 June. The 28th edition of this traditional event featured greats from France, Germany, Austria and, of course, Luxembourg. The starting signal was given by CALI. The artist presented his new project CAVALE, accompanied by his full band. The Fête de la Musique ended with a concert by FOOLS GARDEN. The German band, which became known worldwide through the success of their famous song ‘Lemon Tree’, offered an electro-acoustic session. As is usual at the Fête de la Musique, up-and-coming and local musicians also performed on stage. Also, present were the German singer-songwriter LOTTE with her songs about the search for happiness, the infectious hip hop of MATHEA and the Austrian JOSH., who delighted his audience with his rock'n'roll and humorous compositions. The Luxembourg scene was represented by artists such as rapper NICOOL, the Dudelange band TUYS and by a rare tribute concert by the band PORTOBELLO, but also THE TAME & THE WILD, TNNE, ZERO POINT FIVE, DËPPEGÉISSER, A-DREW, AFTER TANK, ENSEMBLE VOCAL CANTUS GAUDIUM and the AMIS DE L'ORGUE.

Another new addition to the Ënnert dem Waassertuerm programme: the Zeltik Festival. Traditionally, the Celtic evening takes place in March but restrictions in place across Europe at the time did not allow to hold the festival on its usual spring date. But the festival, which has been mixing Celtic music with rock and alternative genres for years, is back for a special summer edition with the Irish folk of HOTHOUSE FLOWERS AND BEOGA, the Scottish rock of SKERRYVORE and the Luxembourg folk-punk of SCHËPPE SIWEN.

In addition to these two flagship events of the city of Dudelange, the varied programme of the Ënnert dem Waassertuerm will also dedicate a few evenings to the jazz-loving public. The JAZZ NIGHTS series will feature KYLE EASTWOOD ‘Cinematic’, JAIMIE BRANCH ‘Fly or Die’, BELMONDO QUINTET ‘Brotherhood’, REGGIE WASHINGTON ‘Music Of The Phrase’ as well as the RETROSPECTIVE 5TET, ARA SEXTET and TELE-PORT will present their latest, highly acclaimed works and convince the audience of the musical diversity of Jazz. After its success last year, an educational Jazz for Kids concert will also take place again, organised by l'École Régionale de Musique Dudelange.

A perfect example of the diversity of the programme: the folk concert by BENNY & THE BUGS (& FRIENDS) in mid-July will be followed a few days later by the gala of the Harmonie Municipale de Dudelange. The “singer-songwriter” genre will also be represented with the pop of MICHAEL SCHULTE and the Dark Folk of ROME.

Female rap will also be in focus this year, as in addition to NICOOL, German rapper NURA will also be on stage as part of a concert series organised in cooperation with A-Promotions. In this series, we are also looking forward to rockers JUPITER JONES. Finally, from this concert series, one of the most popular German musicians will close the festival: CAMPINO. Accompanied by his guitarist Kuddel, the frontman of the punk rock band DIE TOTEN HOSEN will tell his story with music, but also with passages from his book “Hope Street. How I once became an English champion”. Those who know him already know: CAMPINO’s story is inextricably linked to football.

But this is not the only “sporting” event of Ënnert dem Waassertuerm, as football fans can enjoy some public viewing broadcasts of the UEFA Euro 2020 championship on a big screen. Of course, the open-air cinema screenings of the Centre National de l’Audiovisuel (CNA) are not to be missed. Young and old can discover current and classic films, the exact programme will be revealed soon.

Ënnert the Waassertuerm this year will also ring in the eve of the bank holidays with a spectacular concert featuring a PINK FLOYD soundtrack by the band echoes. Food trucks and a drinks stand will satisfy the public’s hunger and thirst. Free parking is available at the Skater Park, Hall Fonduq and Place Jean Fohrmann.
