When the time has come to do the last preparations for Christmas, and the anticipation starts getting to unbearable due to the gifts that might be placed under the tree, the time has come for the yearly Belgian Independent Music Fest in Belgium. The 11th edition of the festival, as happened in all those before, assembles an outstanding line-up to bring up anticipation to the melting point.
As every year, the promoters managed to present a diversified line-up with quite a view surprises. Highlight of the festival will surely be the show of founding member & legendary bassist of both even more legendary bands JOY DIVISION and later NEW ORDER, Peter Hook. He has decided to honour the outstanding work of his first band and the undoubted genius of the late Ian Curtis by giving people the opportunity to hear both of Joy Division's masterpiece albums, ‘Unknown Pleasures’ and ‘Closer’, live and in their entireties. 2012 saw ad will see PETER HOOK & THE LIGHT continue to perform "Unknown Pleasures" live and in its entirety in new places all around the world and last but not least they will perform as Saturday headliners on BIMFEST 2012!
Another band with quite some history is TEST DEPT:REDUX. The band is an industrial music group from London, formed already in 1981. It is one of the most important and influential early industrial music acts. Their approach was marked by a strong commitment to radical socialist politics. TEST DEPT:REDUX is conceived as a club based EBM (Electronic Body Music) intense music & visual performance experience. The last TEST DEPARTMENT live performance goes back to 1998 (UK, London) and their last Belgium concert was already in 1994. So, the festival promoters are surely utterly proud to have these Industrial legends playing at BIMFEST 2012 with their TEST DEPT:REDUX project!
On the line-up goes with another band from the early eighties, BLANCMANGE! The band was formed in Harrow, Middlesex, UK in 1979 by singer Neil Arthur and instrumentalists Stephen Luscombe and Laurence Stevens. In 1982, the band broke through with ‘Living on the Ceiling’ reaching no. 7 in the UK Singles Chart. BLANCMANGE released their fourth studio album, ‘Blanc Burn’, in March 2011. Since the release of this by the fans well received and by the press highly acclaimed comeback album the band has been touring the UK quite intensive. After their stunning performances at the Sinners Day 2011 Festival (Hasselt) and Rewind Fest (Ghent) it’s time to conquer BIMFEST 2012 / Antwerp!
