With an album like ‘The Great Cold Distance’ as predecessor that was laying bars so extremely high for a successor, surely anything could’ve happened to the next KATATONIA album. Fortunately, ‘Night Is The New Day’ became an overall success for the Swedish band that actually started with strong Death Metal influences. Hardly possible you’d think hearing that album now, which for the first time incorporates dense key layers into the truly catatonic and profoundly melancholy sound.
It’s mingling Progressive Rock, Metal and a tang of dark pop influences to a signature sound that has found widespread acclaim. In 2011 this band is going to celebrate their 20th anniversary under the motto ‘Last Fair Day Gone Night – An Evening With Katatonia’ with a series of five special concerts, seeing the band playing two separate sets. The first one is the breakthrough album ‘Last Fair Deal Gone Down’ in its entirety and the second one will include various selected tracks of the band’s history, including B-sides and rarely played stuff. Be sure not to miss this.
