Dinkelsbühl, Germany
18th - 20th August 2011
Summer Breeze Festival 2011 with Pre-Party and Nuclear Blast Label night on 17th August
The Festival SUMMER BREEZE Open Air is about to go into its incredible 14th round. For the sixth time, the metallic breeze will blow in beautiful Dinkelsbuehl, Germany from August 18th to 20th 2011. As usual, this year’s SUMMER BREEZE will take place over three days on two open air stages on the airfield of the Aeroclub Dinkelsbuehl between Sinbronn and Illenschwang with no simultaneous performances.
Already from Wednesday, August 17th 2011, the festival will start in the Party Tent and there will be a fourth stage, the Camel Stage, with a merciless display of hard music. It’s bigger, better and louder than ever before! And it attracts visitors from all over the world. A Label night will already take place already on the 17th of August with such absolutely mandatory bands like:
MELECHESH
The band plays Mesopotamian death / black metal. Originally hailing from Israel and now residing in the Netherlands, the band led by chief songwriter Ashmedi belongs to the few absolute visionaries in a scene starving for new ideas. Those of you looking for an alternative to Scandinavian black metal will find what they are after, as MELECHESH's roots lie deep in oriental culture. Fascinating band!
VADER
There are only very few European death metal bands who can look back on such a long and successful career as VADER. Still in 2011 there is no way around VADER! For ages they have been a guarantee for intense, captivating live performances, not to mention the fact that they were true pioneers in putting Eastern Europe on the death metal map.
DESTRUCTION
The godfathers of German thrash alongside KREATOR and SODOM, will come for the second time (their first appearance was in 2008) to lay waste to SUMMER BREEZE! Back in their old label home Nuclear Blast, Schmier & Co.'s razor sharp riffs - even 29 years after their formation - will make sure that the Nuclear Blast Label Night 2011 stays in everyone's memories (and necks!) for a long time.
So don't you dare miss the Nuclear Blast Label Night!

Bands
BOLT THROWER
The UK tank is in motion again! BOLT THROWER will come, see, conquer and utterly destroy SUMMER BREEZE 2011 without batting an eyelid. Those who missed their memorable 2007 gig in Dinkelsbühl will now finally be able to make up for it. You better start warming up those necks for the numerous indestructible death metal classics BOLT THROWER have penned throughout their long career. Unfortunately, a new studio album is not yet in sight. But those familiar with these Brits know that they don't do anything half-arsed, a philosophy they have always stayed true to, be it their close contact to the fans, their live shows, their studio albums or their exclusive merchandise, which is always literally fought for. One of their song titles is the perfect expression of what BOLT THROWER are all about: “This Time It's War!” MARDUK
They are veterans of the international black metal scene: MARDUK! Only very few bands in the black metal genre have had a similarly influential and darkly brilliant career. After 2008, this will be the second time the four Swedes grace the SUMMER BREEZE stage with their sharp, unholy songs about Satan, death and war. A true feast for fans of this legendary band, which was formed in 1990 with the intention to become the most evil in the world, in stark contrast to the Swedish death metal scene of the time which MARDUK deemed too bland. In 2011, a Panzer Division named MARDUK will overrun you and darken the horizon with their sheer presence.
HAMMERFALL
They are one of the most relevant and successful heavy metal bands of the last 15 years, yet they have never played at SUMMER BREEZE. It's about time to change that! We are extremely happy to present HAMMERFALL as one of this year's headliners! The undisputed leaders of true metal have loads of metal anthems and catchy melodies under their belt, after they almost single-handedly put traditional power metal back on the map with their glorious 1997 debut 'Glory To The Brave'. And what started as a fairytale became a metal dream come true, including high chart entries all over Europe for every one of their seven studio albums. If each of you goes back in time for a minute, you will certainly remember at least one metal party where you were banging your fists singing along to hymns such as 'Steel Meets Steel', 'Hearts on Fire' or 'Heeding The Call'. To put it in their own words: “Brothers unite! Let's stand up and fight!”
TARJA
Together with Tuomas Holopainen, she formed a band called NIGHTWISH. To this date, five years after her acrimonious dismissal, for many people she is still the Finnish mega sellers' only true voice. But Tarja has gone on to prove what many would never have expected from her. Since 2005 she has been successfully performing under the TARJA banner, and her last two studio albums, ‘My Winter Storm’ and ‘What Lies Beneath’, made it into the German album charts' top 5. Her charismatic opera voice hasn't lost any of its mystique as she floats like an elf over the solid gothic rock/metal foundation that her illustrious backing band, featuring Alex Scholpp (Farmer Boys, Tieflader) and Mike Terrana (Rage, Axel Rudi Pell, etc.) among others, lay out for her like a red carpet. TARJA, the band, for the first time and Tarja Turunen, the singer, for the second time (after 2002 with NIGHTWISH) is welcomed at SUMMER BREEZE Open Air. TURISAS
Good news for all TURISAS fans: The long-awaited successor to their sophomore album 'The Varangian Way', which came out almost four years ago, has been completed, is titled 'Stand Up And Fight' and will be released in January. As if that wasn't enough, we can also tell you that the Finns will provide plenty of head banging, mead drinking, partying, battle hymn singing and raising horns in Dinkelsbühl next August. Their catchy, party-compatible metal mix combines the best of pagan, Viking, folk, black and death metal. The war paint-wearing six-piece call their style “battle metal”, which hits the pagan nail right on the head. Look forward to the second TURISAS show at SUMMER BREEZE after their 2006 debut! They will prove they have become even more powerful in these four years. BLITZKID
BLITZKID are probably the only band at SUMMER BREEZE ever to hand an instrument to a fan for him to get up on stage and play. It happened in 2007 when bassist/singer Argyle Goolsby decided he would rather jump into the crowd and therefore needed someone to replace him. Everything is possible in horror punk, and that's also why these Americans have very fond memories of their first ever trip to Europe. Now it's your turn to make their second appearance in Dinkelsbühl even more fun. Their fast, party and sing-a-long compatible songs will certainly not be the problem. SODOM
'M-16' was the last album SODOM presented live at SUMMER BREEZE. A long seven years have passed since then, seven years that haven't changed Tom Angelripper & Co. in the least, as evidenced by their great new album 'In War And Pieces'. SODOM are perfect proof that a life devoted entirely to metal preserves the body and soul. Could you even guess that in 2011 they will be celebrating their 30th anniversary, meaning that they were already touring the world when many SUMMER BREEZE attendants were nothing but a libidinous glance in their father's eyes? The trio's numerous thrash classics belong to the inventory of any respectable metal collection and shouldn't be missing from the festival action in Dinkelsbühl either. You better take cover, as SUMMER BREEZE is about to be 'Ausgebombt'!
