10 original 1977 mixes available for the first time in their intended format on vinyl
‘Oceanside Countryside’ is the latest of NEIL YOUNG’s great “lost” albums to be released as part of his Analog Original Series (AOS). Recorded between May and December 1977, the album was completed before the release of ‘Comes A Time’ in 1978. Both albums share a similar Country / Folk sound, and three tracks - ‘Goin’ Back’, ‘Human Highway’, and ‘Field of Opportunity’ - appear on both records.
The vinyl release of ‘Oceanside Countryside’ includes several tracks featured on the ‘Archives Vol. III’ CD, but this is the first time the album is being released in its originally intended tracklist and format on vinyl. Recorded to tape, these are the original mixes created at the time of the recordings. Preorder here! As Young explains: “This analogue original album, recorded in 1977, was left unreleased at the time. These songs are the original mixes created during the recording sessions. I played the instruments and sang the vocals on ‘Oceanside’ at Triad Studios in Florida and Indigo Studio in Malibu. I recorded ‘Countryside’ with my great band of friends at CRAZY MAMA’s in Nashville. I hope this treasure of an analogue original recording brings you as much joy as it has brought me.”

Important Notes
Although the songs on ‘Oceanside Countryside’ appear in ‘Archives Vol. III’, the versions are not always identical. This tracklist reflects the originally planned ‘Oceanside Countryside’ album.
For this analogue original vinyl release:
- The versions of ‘Lost in Space’, ‘Captain Kennedy’, and ‘The Old Homestead’ are the 1980 recordings from ‘Hawks & Doves’.
- ‘Sail Away’, ‘Goin’ Back’, ‘Human Highway’, ‘It Might Have Been’, and ‘Pocahontas’ are the same as those found in ‘Archives Vol. III’ in digital format.
- ‘Field of Opportunity’ and ‘Dance Dance Dance’ are original versions, featuring Young’s own backing vocals instead of Nicolette Larson, as presented on ‘Archives Vol. III’.
All tracks on ‘Oceanside’ feature Neil Young performing solo. On ‘Countryside’, Young is backed by a band of friends:
- Ben Keith (Steel Guitar)
- Rufus Thibodeaux (Fiddle)
- Karl T. Himmel (Drums)
- Joe Osborne (Bass)
- On ‘The Old Homestead’ Tim Drummond (Bass) and Levon Helm (Drums)
- ‘Pocahontas’ features Neil Young solo.
‘Oceanside Countryside’ will be available on standard black vinyl, limited edition transparent vinyl (exclusively through the Greedy Hand Store at NYA and select indie retailers), and digitally - including Atmos - via the NYA Download Store and most major digital retailers. All purchases from the Greedy Hand Store include free high-resolution digital audio downloads from the NYA Download Store.
