HYRAX (not to be confused with US band HIRAX) is an alternative metal band formed in the year 2009 in Nuremberg. From 2009 to 2011 the band suffered under many personal changes. The present line up is solid since 2011. When asked, the band claims to play a mixture of classic rock, modern metal and irony. October 2013 saw the release of the recent record (no pun intended) which is very suitable for today`s charts (the melodies are a bit too radio friendly and harmless). A real head banger will miss the hook lines. Most of times a band refers to his own sound as modern metal (or related, inspired or mixed with modern metal) I hold my breath while listening, because I expect crappy uninspired wannabe metal that turns my stomach and hurts my ears. While this bands newest output is no way near as bad as it could be it is just not my cup of tea. As a metal head I wanna listen to metal as in power metal, thrash metal, just plain heavy metal or true metal, I sure as hell don`t want to listen to djent, modern metal, nu metal, emo core, screamo, metal core or anything like that.
Conclusion: For everyone that is into the kind of music that mixes sweet radio friendly sounds with a screaming fit here and there I can only recommend HYRAX…
