Review Flash

It seldom is the case that I review something that is purely instrumental but exceptions prove the rule ain’t they? Tonight, I take a ride with MOTHERS OF THE LAND a Vienna based instrumental Rock / Psychedelic band that was born in 2012. Check the press text: “Riff-Smiths MOTHERS OF THE LAND are an instrumental Heavy Psyche Rock band known for crafting powerful vintage Rock epics, centred around the spiralling psychedelia of their twin lead guitars. Their first album ‘Temple Without Walls’ has been described as “WISHBONE ASH on steroids and coke” and was well received by Heavy Rock listeners worldwide. Since then the band has been sharpening their axes in preparation for the release of their second album ‘Hunting Grounds’.”

I don’t know if I ever mentioned how much I love twin guitar duels and melodies but I really, really do! This is expertly played and all in all brilliantly executed music, I miss the vocals to be honest but these guys tell tales that actually don’t need the typical hero on the microphone. Great melodies (especially ‘Showdown’) and really just a good time. Normally I am not into Psychedelic music but this is a comprehensible narrative I can and really want to follow.

Conclusion: If you dig twin guitar melodies and if you don’t think a singer is essential for a good rocking time, help yourself and check out MOTHERS OF THE LAND!
