Cologne – Hamburg – Berlin / Germany
2nd to 4th November 2006
Nitzer Ebb, Motor, Fixmer
NITZER EBB returning on the stages of the clubs and festivals on this planet after eleven years of complete silence was one of the most unforeseeable events of 2006, and to me one of the most joyful surprises this year. After NITZER EBB’s live return at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig they toured the whole world including many festival gigs and shows in far away places like Australia or South America. In early November they headed for “Route 03”, the third leg of their “Body of Work” world tour, which lead them through many countries in Europe including five shows in Germany. We grabbed the chance to attend three of the shows – Cologne, Hamburg, and Berlin – to see the three-piece package including French DJ TERENCE FIXMER and the wonderful MOTOR.

Depeche Mode & Goldfrapp
Waldbühne (Wood stage) Berlin and Depeche Mode – that’s a very special magical combination. For months I was looking forward to those two – in fact my last – concerts of this tour. After several concerts in Germany and abroad these both shows should become my highlights – and in fact they were the crowning ending of my wonderful “Angel-Tour”. Even though it is a bit hard and I felt sad that anything is over now. www.depechemode.com/ / www.depechemode.de/

Elf Fantasy Fair
Just after I left home it was clear, I was not the only one from this part of the country going to Haarzuilen. After the train stopped for the first time I saw pointed ears and swords appear. Soon enough more elves and fairies joined us. During the last part of my journey by train there were only 1 or 2 ‘normal’ folks on the train. Everybody was talking to each other, some in LARP slang, even some sword fights were held.

SAMA – Scandinavian Alternative Music Awards 2006
Seize, Iris, Sturm Café, Das Ich, Strasse, De/Vision, Spetsnaz, VNV Nation
SAMA 2006 means the ninth event like this. The history of SAMA started in 1998 as SEMA (Swedish Electronic Music Awards) when mostly Swedish bands like ‘Covenant’, ‘Cat Rapes Dog’ or ‘Saft’ could be seen on stage. In the following years SAMA expanded from Sweden only to the rest of the Scandinavian countries and to other styles of alternative music too, even though electronic music is still the main issue like you may recognize in this year’s line-up too. Like every year the ceremony was held in Gothenburg again – this time it was the first appearance of Alexander Hofman (S.P.O.C.K) as moderator of the show. He did a great and very funny job! Besides the awards people are mainly coming for all the concerts happening during the event. 2006 eight bands were playing on two stages. Different to the previous two years, Pre-SAMA (some kind of warm-up) was help just one day before the event and attracted lots of people. http://www.sama.mu/
