DAUGHTRY is an American rock band, formed by Chris Daughtry, who managed to come into the spotlight on the fifth season of the US popular TV show “American Idol”. The band’s self-titled debut album appeared in 2006 and actually it became a very successful debut. Then there followed a couple of other interesting creations which attracted even more attentions to the project and increased the number of their fans. Now we can assess DAUGHTRY’s new record entitled ‘Baptized’. So the very first impression after listening to it is some feeling of commonplace. Of course, the album is good in its own way, interesting and thought-provoking, yet it’s mainstream and immediately a lot of other artists come to mind from THREE DAYS GRACE to JASON MRAZ. However if DAUGHTRY’s albums are so popular and so many people enjoyed the music then there’s something unique about the band and that’s really great.
After the first cursory listening I can mark out several songs able to draw one’s attention starting with the title track. ‘Baptized’ is just a rather meaningful composition beautiful in its simplicity that creates the atmosphere remaining till the end of the whole album. One more interesting piece ‘I’ll Fight’ starts with a nice guitar part and even turns to be energetic enough. ‘Long Live Rock & Roll’ seems to be one of my favourite songs on the record. Another one is melodic, deep and a bit sad ‘Broken Arrows’. The lyrics of all the tracks deserve a special attention. The good choice of words, penetrating images supplemented with the great vocals make the album worthy to listen to. Maybe there’s nothing new or completely original about it, but ‘Baptized’ is definitely impressive and peculiar, especially for the fans of the band. Other lovers of good pop rock may find something interesting for themselves.
