It’s got to be good right? A pair of God brothers (yes, really) at the helm? Two Gods for the price of one? Plus they’re Swedish, and nothing rubbish comes from Sweden. It’s got to be a bit magic doesn’t it? No. It’s rather depressingly ordinary. From the seriously uninspiring band name to the crap ‘70’s-style album cover (‘Far Away’… so let’s have an airbrushed astronaut picture… genius!) this sloppy collection of what could kindly be described as relic-rock, huffs and puffs its sweaty way through all the known clichés of a genre that took its last breath once punk finally came along and squeezed its scraggy neck. There’s an almost staggering lack of originality or invention here, no true soul or emotional impact, just another band pointlessly covering the sound of other bands who weren’t very good first time around.
Opening with ‘Out Of Touch’ seems comical, because clearly, this is. Although it’s probably the best thing on offer on ‘Far Away’ and trots along happily enough like a distant relative of WISHBONE ASH. Hideous production only drags down the school-boy riffing of ‘The Way’, and once we hit inevitable ballad territory on ‘Gone’, it’s clear that Mr God is no singer. A bit of vibrato does not mask the flat wailing, his voice desperately flapping about in search of more weak melodies to massacre. It’s amateur at best, it really is. Does it get any better? Sadly not. ‘Damnation’ is awful, and bath-tub production sinks ‘Over’ down the plug-hole. It also lacks anything resembling a tune. Which leaves ‘Heart’ to save the day. But it doesn’t. “Just a waste of time, you know it too”, he sings. And it is. A complete waste of time. Now go away young men, and get proper jobs.
