Album Review

Ever since their foundation in 2000, BLEEDING THROUGH has managed to establish themselves amongst the more important acts in extreme Metalcore. Tours with MARYLIN MANSON or MACHINE HEAD as well as albums like ‘The Truth’ (2006) or ‘This is Love, This is Murderous’ have contributed to this success. With their self-titled, upcoming record, a development towards a heavier style can be seen.

‘A Resurrection’ remarks an orchestral, atmospheric intro, which soon veers into the fast ‘Anti-Hero’. Having read in the press information that BLEEDING THROUGH combine the best of black, death and thrash metal within their album, I was really surprised, since I remembered them as a Metalcore group. ‘Anti-Hero’ approves this presentiment: lots of breakdowns are included as well as shouted vocals. The next song, ‘Your Abandonment’ starts in a symphonic way, with obvious influences from DIMMU BORGIR. Yet, a typical black metal song is not to be awaited: soon, typical Metalcore shredding kicks in, at times accompanied with keyboard elements and fast drumming.

‘Fifteen Minutes’ continues in that manner, also adding some felicitous guitar solos and varied vocals. Nevertheless, the typical breakdowns are omnipresent. Clean vocals and group shouts can be found in ‘Salvation Never Found’ if this is appropriate or not is a matter of taste. Already at this point it becomes clear, that the press statement is not too correct: surely various influences from extreme metal can be found in ‘Bleeding Through’, still a typical Metalcore album lays at hand. The added elements surely create a more diversified picture, although at times the keyboard elements appear rather strange. Nonetheless, BLEEDING THROUGH surely have an own style and use unusual elements to stand out from the crowd. Open-minded fans of extreme metal and Metalcore are recommended to give this album a try.
