EP Review
BETH DITTO is an American singer and songwriter, most-known for her work with Indie rock band GOSSIP and her eccentric appearance. It’s hard to say how much that eccentricity shows in DITTO’s songs judging by her solo release which is an EP currently, featuring 4 tracks. The all four sound pretty light, unobtrusive and simple, sometimes too simple and at the same time overladen with synths, especially ‘Open Heart Surgery’.
The atmosphere and the melody of the some compositions for example, ‘Goodnight Good Morning’, remind me of SAVAGE GARDEN however the difference between the projects turned to be really great. Of course, BETH’s beautiful, heartfelt voice could raise the songs to a level a bit higher than flat pop tracks yet the arrangements don’t impress a lot, but it’s quite good for dance floors anyway. In whole, the EP is too short to appreciate the music although it’s not bad.
