Album Review
Matthew P from Suffolk, England is a “newcomer” who “delivers a unique brand of infectious acoustic folk pop” according to his record label. Most people in the UK will have heard his tune 'The Girl on the Platform Smiled / She Began to Dance' which featured on the Match.com advert. 'End of the World' from the ‘Long Straight Lines’ album has already gained cult success through Ch4's use of it on ‘The Watchmen’ advert late 2011. Although he already released two EPs, ‘The Swimming EP’ (2010) and ‘The Breakfast EP’ (2011), and is recognized by several artists like Joel Pott (ATHLETE), Iain Archer (SNOW PATROL) and the HOOSIERS, Matthew releases his debut ‘Long Straight Lines’ in 2012.
The comparisons are countless: whether it’s NEWTON FAULKNER or JACK JOHNSON, to name just two, it’s pretty clear what kind of music Matthew P offers to his audience. In fact, he lists PAUL SIMON, NEIL YOUNG, ELLIOT SMITH, FRANK TURNER and many more as inspiration but still is capable of maintaining a unique style of his own. The whole album is an homage to summer feelings. Beautiful hook lines, tender composing combined with really adorable vocals. There’s nothing else to say than: awesome! Great job! You’ve got to buy!
