CODE 64 is dead, long live CODE 64. Why am I saying that? The guys behind XENTURION PRIME are actually former members of the aforementioned project which I once came to like very much. So as a new name usually exhibits a an attempt to start over, so I went at it with a fresh ear. The opening made by 'Mecha' surely is as a treat for the ears; its production quality way above average and a lot of cool melody in it. 'Rise', bringing a proper start to the album, hops back and forth between its mechanical and emotional side and brings a little harshness into the game on top of that. Following 'Second Nature' dives head-first into upbeat club-filling. It's all there, most importantly an anthemic chorus to claw into your brains.
'Vermillion' I can call a favourite. It puts a little more effort into delivering radiant melodies and atmospheres. That's exactly up my alley. Personally, I think, if they'd stripped out the beats, 'Realms' could have been a stand-out. That supposed crescendo ruins the experience for me. Ending the album with another instrumental called 'Beyond Infinity' the sound takes literally off defying gravity and echoing into space. Yep, I dig the first step of XENTURION PRIME. Though I know I can't expect any miracles, I'd love for them to take a few more chances musically; away from the future pop sound, something setting them apart from the flood of projects of the genre. Still, a very solid release. Keep it coming.
