Epica & Auracle
The song ‘The Green Angel‘ from metal band Autumn is in my head when I walk to the venue. It is a typical cold winter night but inside the long queue with gothic people makes me forget my freezing hands. Tonight there is a special ‘battle’ between two gothic bands: one is already a big name, the other is here to prove that they can be a new Dutch talent: an interesting combination.

Chicks on Speed & Kid Ginseng
It seemed like all of Den Haag's nouveaux art had run out of their safe houses into one of the oldest pop venues of the Netherlands. Somehow the fact that a band starts to create fashion with some local fashion students has dragged in people who would otherwise never go to these kind of concerts. Good promotion made sure that the venue was quite filled up for what could be something really special.

Trail of Tears and Xystus
Due to lack of time I arrived at the Willemeen while Xsystus had already started. It had its advantages, no line for instance. Although it seemed there hadn’t been a line anyway for it was not all that busy inside. There was a crowd of some 30 people max. The ones who were there were having a good time though and during their performance more people came in. Both bands had their own audience, in between the bands there was a change between the back and the front of the audience.

Children of Bodom & Ectomorph
Children of Bodom, now that takes me back. Back to the days of special shows showing metal and hard rock videos on tv, where you could discover new bands you would instantly love. Such was also the case with Children Of Bodom. It was fast, it was heavy, and it contained a lot of technical tricks and licks. Who could not love that. Though I’m not a big fan anymore, I was excited to see them again. The band which caused the “melodic death metal” genre.

Deep Purple & SQY Rocking Team
A mixed crowd of men in their forties who still dressed like the good old hard rock fans they used to be or those who had changed over time into ordinary people. Dads brought their sons to the Heineken Music hall to go see the music which influenced their younger days. A great crowd had filled up the sold out venue with the fanatic fans in the front and the quiet music lovers nicely placed in seats at the back. Waiting in anticipation the audience had to live through the support act to see what they came for: Deep Purple.
