U96 release programmatic single ‘New Life’ to mark their 30th anniversary. The first Techno album ever was released almost 30 years ago: ‘Das Boot’ by U96. In the time before, the Techno DJs and producer teams primarily limited themselves to the publication of current tracks and remixes on the 12” vinyl format. As the name suggests, the foundation for this album was the first notable chart success of Techno culture: ‘Das Boot’ by U96 not only made the Techno genre socially acceptable beyond the scene, but also reached top positions in the charts worldwide. In Germany alone, the maxi single stayed in first place for months and sold more than 1,000,000 copies. U96 was the commercial forerunner of the Techno movement. At that time, it was still an underground, young scene, which advanced to an international movement with the ‘Mayday’ and then the ‘Loveparade’ in the 90s.
