The Prodigy - “No Tourists” Tour 2018

With more than 20 million albums sold worldwide, THE PRODIGY are the undisputed superstars of British club culture. Their unique blend of Techno, Rave, Big Beat, Jungle, Drum’n’Bass, Acid House, Punk and Electronic Hardcore has been finding millions of fans across the scene for over 25 years. In the same year, they were the only ones to win an MTV Music Award for “Best Alternative Act” and “Best Dance Act”.

In 2015, the British trio made an impressive return with their sixth studio album, ‘The Day Is My Enemy’, which promptly shook up the international charts, landed in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in the top 10 and reached the top in their British homeland. After a sold-out world tour and outstanding headliner shows at all major festivals around the globe, THE PRODIGY spent the past year in the studio recording the upcoming ‘No Tourists’ album which will be released on November 2nd. Immediately after that, they will return to a big tour, which will take them from November 27 to December 5 to Germany for four concerts in Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt and Düsseldorf.

The story of THE PRODIGY begins in 1990, when Techno is still in its infancy. Band head Liam Howlett was a Hip-Hop DJ and break dancer back then, but has nothing to do with the fresh-budding scene. Only with the revival of Acid House he turns to harder club sounds. At a party he first meets Keith Flint and shortly thereafter Keith Palmer, who has already collected local merits as MC under the name of Maxim Reality. Leeroy Thornhill joins another rival who leaves the 2000 project named THE PRODIGY.

Right from the start, the band has enjoyed great success in England. Already the first singles, ‘Charly’ and ‘Everybody In The Place’, reach the top 3 of the charts, the debut album, ‘Experience’, reaches number 12. With the second album, ‘Music for the Jilted Generation’ released in 1994, they not only manage the international breakthrough, but the album is still regarded as a prelude and blueprint for innovative electronic music, which combines all known styles of House and Techno. Hits like ‘No Good’, ‘Voodoo People’ and ‘Poison’ are considered classics and can still be heard in clubs.

But THE PRODIGY want more - they are looking for the absolutely new, never heard. They succeed with the 1997 released album, ‘The Fat of the Land’. With singles like ‘Firestarter’, ‘Breathe’ or ‘Smack My Bitch Up’, they move away from classic Techno to create a new genre: The Big Beat, which gives electronic music a fresh aesthetic full of broken beats, punky sounds and powerful vocals, THE PRODIGY finally step into the ranks of superstars. They win countless prizes around the album, are nominated for two Grammys and play a triumphant world tour.

At the peak of their career, THE PRODIGY seems to be overrun by a creative crisis: they have revolutionized dance and club music in the long term - what else is to come? The members take a multi-year break and perform solo albums, including ‘Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned’ by Liam Howlett, which appears in 2004 without the participation of his two bandmates under the name THE PRODIGY. It’s not until 2006 that the trio reunites and in 2009 comes the overwhelmingly oppressive comeback album ‘Invaders Must Die’. In 2015 they released the sixth long-player, ‘The Day Is My Enemy’, followed on November 2 by the seventh album, ‘No Tourists’. Again, they play in their own genre that knows no bounds and uses everything that is powerful, whipping and intense - as evidenced by the first pre-single ‘Need Some1’, which is as grim and hard as they comes along with surprisingly slowed down beats for THE PRODIGY. It generates tension for the upcoming event of their next long-player.
