Paradise Lost
PARADISE LOST can be counted as the inventors of Gothic Metal and still, this band belongs to the strongest and most influential British Rock bands. On 18th May, they released already the 11th studio album, ‘In Requiem’. In their long lasting career, PARADISE LOST not only created an own style, they also proved to love experimenting. And so, they fast grew out of the dark doom of the 1990 debut album ‘Lost Paradise’ and tried walking on new paths of the albums ‘One Second’ (1997), ‘Host’ (1999) or the latest one ‘Paradise Lost’ (2005) where the band did a tightrope walk between atmospheric electronics and hard rock sounds. But after all changes, the band never lost the haunting melodies and power of their gloomy rock.
The new album ‘In Requiem’ was recorded in the Chapel Studios in Lincolnshire as well as in Canada together with producer Rhys Fulber (FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY) and mixed by Mike Fraser (METALLICA, AC/DC, VAN HALEN). On the new album the band does not show its electronic side but proves in an impressive way what great hymns on the dark side of Heavy Metal can be created. Singer Nick Holmes comments the new opus as follows: “We wanted to make a dark, heavy PARADISE LOST album without leaving out the melodic elements of the last ten year’s albums. They are finally an important part of our music.”
Lead guitarist Greg Mackintosh adds: “The new album ‘In Requiem’ is the deliberate decision to arrange our sound rougher, more organic and less clean. Musically it is about the balance between brutality and empathy, between scare and beauty. It is neither an effusive celebration nor a deadly sad lament. The album delivers the whole width of emotions framed by life and death.”
As taste for the album, the fantastic single ‘The enemy’ was released on 13th April. The video for it was filmed on the Crimea peninsula in Jalta by director Edward 209 who proved his talent earlier with dark and bizarre clips for FRONT 242 or IN STRICT CONFIDENCE.
