Their early demos earned Jay Kay a record deal with the legendary British label Acid Jazz Records, and their debut single, ‘When You Gonna Learn?’, quickly became a cult hit. Their breakthrough came in 1993 with the critically acclaimed debut album ‘Emergency on Planet Earth’, solidifying their status as pioneers of the acid jazz movement. Kay’s distinctive vocals, funky basslines, and diverse instrumentation quickly earned them a devoted fanbase, while their socially conscious and environmental lyrics struck a chord. The follow-up album, ‘The Return of the Space Cowboy’ (1994), surpassed the debut’s success. By 1996, their album ‘Travelling Without Moving’ propelled them to global stardom, thanks in large part to the smash hit ‘Virtual Insanity’ and its iconic, award-winning music video.
After the departure of bassist Stuart Zender, Jay Kay essentially started anew with the 1999 album ‘Synkronized’, bringing more electronic influences into their sound. With ‘A Funk Odyssey’ in 2001, JAMIROQUAI proved their relevance in the 21st century, blending disco and electronic elements with their signature style. Subsequent albums, including the electronic-leaning ‘Dynamite’ (2005), the more organic funk and soul-inspired ‘Rock Dust Light Star’ (2010), and ‘Automaton’ (2017), showed their ability to innovate while staying true to their funk roots.
Known for their electrifying live performances, JAMIROQUAI consistently deliver high-energy shows that showcase their unparalleled chemistry, despite evolving lineups. After a six-year hiatus from touring, JAMIROQUAI is set to return to major European stages in late 2025! With two shows planned in Germany, it’s time to dust off your dancing shoes and groove with JAMIROQUAI as they light up the dance floors once again.
