Last Wednesday (August 12), METALLICA played live a few songs as part of the famous “The Howard Stern Show”. The set was broadcasted live from the METALLICA headquarters in San Rafael, California, and contained the following songs: 01. Wherever I May Roam / 02. The Unforgiven / 03. All Within My Hands. On August 28, ‘S&M2’ is released in several configurations.

The two celebrated concerts that METALLICA and the San Francisco Symphony played on September 6th and 8th, 2019, were historic in several ways: The ‘S&M2’ shows not only served as the opening ceremony of the new Chase Center, but also after 20 years of waiting, for the first time since the spring of 1999, the San Francisco-based Metal icons and the orchestra, who had already won a Grammy for their first ‘S&M’ album, got back together. As part of the two anniversary concerts, they also presented for the first time arrangements of pieces that Metallica had only written in the following years - which makes the set or tracklist of ‘S&M2’ seem like a best-of with orchestral emphasis.

The 40,000 happy fans from around 70 countries who managed to get tickets for the two sold out shows were beside themselves - just like the media representatives who were present: “The band has proven that anything is really possible,” said Rolling Stone, while Variety spoke of a “charged atmosphere of enthusiasm”. For Mercury News, it was a concert “that the fans will talk about for decades”, and for Consequence of Sound, the spectacle was “a real jubilee in which METALLICA and their musical skills were celebrated”.

On August 28, 2020, ‘S&M2’ will be the official follow-up to the legendary first ‘S&M’ live recording, which was to enter the German charts at number 1 in December 1999 and brought the band 5x gold in this country alone. ‘S&M2’ appears in a number of configurations and audio-visual formats: The digital album release on all streaming platforms is flanked by a 4LP vinyl edition, a 2CD, DVD and Blu-ray version. It will also appear as a limited edition deluxe box with coloured vinyl (4LP), 2CD, Blu-ray as well as sheet music, picks, posters and other bonus material. Above all, the eagerly awaited release of ‘S&M2’ finally makes the two historic evenings in the Chase Center come alive for all those who shouldn’t get tickets for the shows...

The ‘S&M2’ album, which will be released by Blackened Recordings, marks another high point in the almost 40-year history of METALLICA: The latest audio-visual highlight was produced by Greg Fidelman and his co-producers James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich; It combines a good 2.5 hours of live material from James, Lars, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo, who are again supported by the almost 80 musicians of the SF Symphony a good 20 years after their first encounter. The San Francisco Symphony performed under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas, with Edwin Outwater also conducting part of the show. The upcoming concert film is a brand new version from director Joe Hutching (Through The Never); both the audio and video recordings of the two shows surpass the theatrical version, which premiered in October 2019 (and was then shown in 3,700 theatres worldwide).

Pre-ordering ‘S&M2’ possible from now on. Right now available via stream are the two orchestra arrangements of ‘All Within My Hands’ and ‘Nothing Else Matters’. Further information regarding tracklist and single configurations to be found at universal-music.de/metallica.
