Oh no,“Supergroup” alert! There are ex members of SCREAMING TREES, GUNS’N ROSES and THE MISSIONARY POSITION fighting for your attention in bluesy-rock combo WALKING PAPERS on their debut album. Muscular guitars and memorable riffs battle it out with some less obvious instrumentation (Vibraphone and Marimba anyone?), and vocalist Jeff Angell does a solid job of sounding like a classic rock frontman throughout. You just know he is tight of trouser. Addictive opener ‘The Whole World’s Watching’ gets swiftly under the skin, ‘I’ll Stick Around’ slinks and skulks seductively and 'Independence Day’ is doomy and portentous and the best song here.
Conclusion: Could have been a disaster, but wealth of experience and a fresh approach make this far more than anyone’s vanity project.
