MANTAR is a German Black/ Doom/ Crossover Metal band, founded in 2012. Their debut record ‘Death By Burning’ was recorded in 2013 and offers a challenging and intense assortment of their very own and distinct style. Their music includes the harshness and coldness of traditional Black Metal, assembled with monotonous and repetitive Doom/ Sludge Metal riffs and penetrating hook-lines and melodies. Taken all together, the album at first may appear as rather inaccessible, but with a little patience, it opens up its own dark and bizarre beauty. This record moreover illustrates the willingness to take risks and make innovations, which might occur too seldom in today’s Metal scene.
Conclusion: Interesting and genre-transgressing debut, combining, among others, Black and Doom Metal.
